In that match, replays showed that Rahul apparently might have not taken the catch cleanly when Hazlewood edged Ravichandran Ashwin. India went on to win the match by 31 runs and take a 1-0 lead in the series.Australia heaved a high sigh of relief when Kohli was given out and they would be aiming to press home the advantage as they look to bounce back and level the series. New Delhi: Virat Kohli was batting like a dream on day 3 of the Perth Test against Australia. The Indian skipper notched up his 25th century and sixth in Australia by driving Mitchell Starc to the long off fence for a boundary. After that, he pointed to his bat and made a gesture with his hand which stated, “My bat does the talking”. The intent signalled one thing that he was ready to pile on the misery on the Australians. He upper-cut Josh Hazlewood to the third man fence and registered some crisp boundaries off Starc. With lunch approaching and India erasing the deficit, Kohli was on 123 and India dominated. However, the Indian skipper drove a full ball and the edge flew to Peter Handscomb at second slip.Handscomb moved to his right and got the fingers underneath the ball and he claimed the catch. The third umpire was asked to look into it and umpire Kumar Dharmasena gave the soft signal as out. Replays were not that conclusive to overturn the decision and Kohli was given the marching orders. India lost their last five wickets for 32 runs as Australia seized a 43-run lead. Following the decision, Kohli was bitterly disappointed and he could be seen blurting out expletives as he walked back to the dressing room.Read More | Virat Kohli hits 25th century, equals Sachin Tendulkar’s recordHowever, the catch has drawn sharp divisions from social media users. FOLLOW US Associated Press Television News Written By Cam Newton isn’t concerned with whether he’s the front-runner to be the Patriots’ starting quarterback. For now, strengthening the bonds he’s building with his new teammates and getting a deeper grasp of the playbook is what’s most important to him.“Every day is a workday for me, and that label is not important to me right now because I know I have so much that I need to get better at, so much that I need to learn, so much that I need to be comfortable with,” he said Wednesday. “And throughout this process, that’s the last thing that I’m pretty much worried about.”But with less than two weeks left of training camp, Newton seems to be distancing himself from second-year Jarrett Stidham and veteran Brian Hoyer in the competition to replace Tom Brady.Newton’s reps during practices have increased and he is most often paired with players expected to have key roles in the offense. His teammates are also responding to the unique brand of energy he brings to the field.Whether Newton is dancing during pre-practice warmups, or perfecting intricate and personalized handshakes in the huddle with each member of the offense, he’s slowly putting his stamp on a culture that’s long discouraged such individualism.“It’s extremely important, especially for me as a person,” Newton said. “Anybody who knows me knows that it’s all about the vibe that you have to set and you curate, and in essence, we want to change that word ‘vibe.’ It more or less becomes the standard.”Receiver Damiere Byrd said the handshakes are from Newton’s time with the Panthers. They were teammates together in Carolina from 2016 to 2018.“It’s just a way to get the energy going and get the vibe going and really kind of just pull everybody together,” Byrd said.Newton admits, though, he borrowed the handshake idea from another well-known athlete.“I kind of bit off somebody else’s swag with LeBron (James). I saw LeBron years ago have different handshakes for every single person on the roster. And I was like, ‘Man, that’s pretty cool,’” Newton said.“We all have indirect and direct ways to hold each other accountable, and it keeps you locked in practices so we can keep everybody’s energy level at an all-time high.”It’s been apparent recently when Newton has noticed something amiss during a drill or scrimmage session. During breaks he can often be seen working those issues out with his receivers, be it a mistimed route or a read he may have missed. It’s also helped coach Bill Belichick get to know him better.Newton previously acknowledged that he was curious about how he and Belichick would coexist, considering the outside perception he had about the Patriots’ closely controlled environment. But Belichick has welcomed the energy Newton has brought.“I think that’s Cam’s personality,” Belichick said. “Look, all the players on the team, we’re all different. We all have different personalities and that’s what makes up a team, that diversity of people. … It will be interesting to see how it all comes together. Each team forms its own chemistry. Certainly, Cam is an important part of that.”It’s helped erase any preconceived notions on both sides, Newton believes.“There’s been some things that a lot of people may have not known about me prior to (joining the Patriots),” he said.“I just want to make sure that — for me and my worth to this team — that I’m as accessible to this team as I can possibly be. … Whatever Coach needs me to be, whatever the players expect me to be and whenever I expect me to be, I’m willing to do that and go over and beyond for that.”It’s also why he says he’s not doing anything extra to assume the leadership reins of the team.“At the end of the day, you cannot be negated off of the person who you really are. That’s what just happens,” Newton said. “You want to be more of the leader that leads more by example than anything else.”NOTES: RB Sony Michel, who began the season on the physically unable to perform list, returned to practice Wednesday. … Newton said the recent police shooting of Jacob Blake, a Black man in Wisconsin, struck a cord with him. “It’s just disheartening,” he said. “What’s going on in this country of ours at times is extremely disgusting. And until we find a fix, I think more than ever, we have to unify and become one as much as possible. From the Black Lives Matter campaign, from the social injustice, bringing awareness with that, and just everybody becoming more aware of certain things and not necessarily turning their ear or turning their face (away from) things that are extremely blatant.”(Image Credit: AP) First Published: 27th August, 2020 05:57 IST LIVE TV WATCH US LIVE Last Updated: 27th August, 2020 05:57 IST Cam Newton Slowly Making His Way Into Patriots’ Culture Cam Newton isn’t concerned with whether he’s the front-runner to be the Patriots’ starting quarterback. Submit Share Fitzdares to launch Mayfair private members’ club August 11, 2020 Related Articles Share ITV secures three-year British racing broadcast deal August 5, 2020 StumbleUpon Björn Nilsson: How Triggy is delivering digestible data through pre-set triggers August 28, 2020 There’s less than a week to go in the Countdown to Cheltenham, and the racing industry has turned its attention to the runners and riders which are tipped for success. Speaking to William Woodhams, CEO of Fitzdares, he told SBC that the pre-Festival events such as The Fitzdares Club have been key in boosting engagement with the four-day event for the private bookmaker. Fitzdares, which recently signed Cornelius Lysaght as their lead racing ambassador, plans to use its 5 A Day offer to both retain members’ loyalty as well as boost excitement throughout The Festival.SBC: The Festival is arguably one of the biggest events in the racing calendar, how is Fitzdares getting Festival ready? William Woodhams: This is the biggest event of the year and we practically started preparing in March last year. Our pre-campaign, the Calm Before The Roar, was launched on our microsite to get our members Festival ready with all our Cheltenham events, 25% brand partner discounts to help you dress for the Festival and more key details. We’ve recently launched our current campaign, called 5 A Day, giving everyone a free bet on the Cheltenham Tuesday.SBC: Fitzdares is renowned for hosting a number of events ahead of the Festival, how has this helped boost engagement with members ahead of Cheltenham?William Woodhams: We host over 30 events in the build-up to Cheltenham, have our private box on course, dinners in Cheltenham every evening and launch The Fitzdares Club for 700 people in both East and West London. All this massively boosts excitement, turnover, attendees and engagement. Most of all, it is fun for us and our members.SBC: What role will request-a-bet and promotional offers, such as Fitzdares’ 5 a day, play in engaging punters with this year’s festival?William Woodhams: If we start Cheltenham with a fantastic offer, we know we will retain our members’ loyalty throughout the week. Ultimately, however, it is the strength and excitement of the Festival that is most compelling.SBC: Three of the shortest-priced favourites of the week have been lined up to race on the Wednesday of Cheltenham Festival – is this a worry for Fitzdares? and how do you plan to mitigate the risk of a ‘wednesday wipeout’? William Woodhams: Our free bet offer on Tuesday is likely to put us in a vulnerable position on Wednesday and we are fully expecting and preparing to get thumped. That said, hopefully the results can even themselves out across the week. If all the favourites win, there’s not a huge amount we can do!SBC: The Gold Cup hasn’t been defended since 2004, what are the chances of current joint favourite Al Boum Photo doing it for Willie Mullins this year?William Woodhams: The clue is in the odds – the chance of him winning it again is 4/1, or 20%. New pretenders are thin on the ground, so he must have every chance of winning back-to-back Gold Cups. If it rains like mad, all bets are off.SBC: And finally, is there anyone that Fitzdares thinks we should be keeping our eye on?William Woodhams: Our suspicion is that Gordon Elliott will be Top Trainer but that is akin to tipping Liverpool for the title. We also love amateur jockey David Maxwell, who owns and rides Bob And Co. He is a polarising figure but nobody can deny his absolute passion for the game.
Black Meteors head coach, Ibrahim Tanko, is hopeful that the team will overcome its current difficult situation and make the semi-finals of the ongoing U-23 AFCON tournament in Egypt. The Meteors must beat Mali on Thursday and hope that Egypt will defeat Cameroon to give them a chance of getting into the semi-finals and keep their Olympic dream alive. After drawing with Cameroon in the opening Group A match, the Meteors lost 3-2 to Egypt on Monday and now, they virtually have their fate in the hands of the Egyptians.Despite these circumstances, Ibrahim Tanko said at the pre-match press conference that he was confident the team would get into the semi-finals but he expected a tough test from the Malians.“We have a chance to make it to the next stage while Mali have zero points but I know that they are not going to take it easy on us because of the rules of fair play in football. We are determined to win the match and make it to the next stage. I am optimistic that the players are ready to get the victory.”Team captain, Yaw Yeboah, was equally full of belief and stated that he and his team mates were willing to get the right result.“We have confidence that we can make something happen. The match will be tough but we are ready and we will have to get the victory. It is unfortunate that we lost the last match to Egypt but we are getting ready and prepared for this match and we will see what will happen.”Should Ghana and Cameroon be level on points after the third group stage match, they will separated by goal difference or goals scored in the group stage matches since the head-to-head between is even after they drew 1-1.
Algeria winger Youcef Belaïli is a man of many talents and a lot of confidence in his abilities.Never has this been more apparent than on Monday in Algeria’s game against Botswana.Belaïli, the usual set-piece taker for the Algerian national team went over to the corner flag as the North African nation had just won one.Despite having lots of options in the box, Belaïli took aim at goal straight from the corner and would have scored had the Botswanan keeper not been alert. The goalkeeper pushed it up and over the bar for another corner and must have thought that there was no way Belaïli would try it again. How very wrong he was!Belaïli fired another ball in and this time the keeper wasn’t ready. He missed the ball and it nestled in the back of the net leaving the defence and the goalie himself stunned. The goal turned out to be the winner for Algeria who maintained their 100 percent record in the AFCON 2021 QualifiersWatch the effort by Belaïli below
The management of Ghana’s Under 23 team have hinted that they will consider augmenting the current squad with foreign based players ahead of the second leg preliminary 2016 Olympic Games qualifier in Brazzaville in a fortnight. The Black Meteors have the advantage going into the second leg after defeating Claude Le Roy’s side 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday. Charles ‘Micky Charles’ Ntim is a member of the management team.”We still have players who play for the Black Stars and qualify to play for the Olympic team. Management will take a decision if we need some of them.” “The likes of Baba Rahman, Frank Acheampong, Ebenezer Assifuah are just a few. Many more in the senior national team qualify to play for the Black Meteors,” he told Joy Sports in an interview. “The technical team is going to cast its net very wide because the game against Congo is not going to be easy.” The 2015 CAF U-23 Championship qualifying rounds will decide the eight teams that will make the finals in Senegal .The three best teams from CAF will represent Africa at the 2016 Summer Olympics men’s football tournament.–
