first_imgZIMBABWE somehow snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in a sensational one-day international against Afghanistan in Harare yesterday..The hosts looked out of it after only managing a meagre 129, but amazingly the 130-run target proved too much for Afghanistan as they suffered a crazy collapse to lose by three runs.Afghanistan looked on course for a third successive win to wrap up the series with two games to spare, but they lost five wickets for five runs to slump from 121-5 to 126 all out in a dramatic anticlimax.Tarisai Musakanda’s maiden ODI half-century looked like being in vain as only two other Zimbabwe teammates made double figures, Malcolm Waller his main ally with an unbeaten 36.Gulbadin Naib (4-27) and Rashid Khan (3-29) starred with the ball for Afghanistan, but amazingly their batsmen faltered in pursuit of their lowly target.It all seemed to be going to plan as captain Asghar Stanikzai (31), Samiullah Shenwari (29) and Naib (16) put the tourists within nine runs of victory, but suddenly panic set in and Zimbabwe took full advantage.Sean Williams (3-15) and Chris Mpofu (3-24) caused that chaos with a fine spell of bowling for the hosts, the pair sharing the final six wickets to wrap up an unimaginable victory that keeps the five-match series alive.last_img
