Multi-purpose basketball court at the Sineku Primary School donated by LIME, DominicaA multi-purpose basketball court at the Sineku Primary School will soon receive a facelift thanks to a five thousand dollar cash contribution from Dominica’s leading telecommunications provider, LIME.As part of the company’s regional sponsorship of the Carifta games hosted in Montego Bay, Jamaica over the Easter weekend, a local text promotion was held in each territory where LIME operates. Customers were invited to text the word ‘GOLD’ to short code ‘5463’ for a chance to win a Samsung P1000 Galaxy Tab top notch mobile phone, but more importantly, an opportunity to win five thousand ($5000.00) cash towards the development of a sporting program at the winners’ school of choice.Eighteen year-old Rachael Laurent of Sineku in Kalinago Territory emerged as the lucky winner, giving her the once in a lifetime opportunity to give back in a significant way to her former school.  An elated Rachael was quick to reply “Sineku Primary School” when asked which educational institution she would be donating the prize money to.At a presentation ceremony held at the school, Principal Mrs. Lorna Lewis expressed sincere gratitude first to LIME for providing the forum through the text promotion to allow someone to win a cash prize towards sports development in a local school. In addition she applauded Ms. Laurent for texting a record sixty-two times to win the grand prize. Mrs. Lewis confirmed that the funds will go towards the refurbishment of a basketball court at the school which is used for a variety of sporting activities ranging from exercising, duck walk, netball, rounders, cricket to name a few.Kalinago Chief Garnette Joseph also commended LIME for the five thousand dollar donation to the school and bestowed similar praise on Ms. Laurent for selecting her former school as the recipient of the funds. He also committed the help of the Carib Council to the school in completing the basketball court project.Of notable mention is the support from the parents of the community who turned out in large numbers to the small presentation ceremony held at the school.
