Broome County bringing back Winterfest this Saturday
“We’re kind of bringing it back; it’s an event they used to do years ago here at Cole Park, so it’s something we want to bring back,” said Liz Woidt, the county parks director. “There’s not a ton to do in the winter out here, so we said why not have a festival out at the park, get everyone outside to enjoy it.” Parks officials said Winterfest used to be annual tradition, and they’re looking forward to seeing it make its return. There are several different events going on at Nathaniel Cole Park in Harpursville this Saturday. Beginning at 8am (with registration starting at 7am) will be an ice fishing derby. Other events beginning at noon include ice skating, sledding and various kids’ activities. HARPURSVILLE (WBNG) — For many people, winter in Broome County can be a boring time with not much to do outside, but luckily, the county parks and recreation department has put together an event that will be fun for everyone. Officials will make a final decision on Wednesday as to if the ice is thick enough for fishing and skating. Unfortunately, you will have to bring your own ice skates and sleds to participate in the fun. There will also be several bonfires and a DJ to help everyone stay warm. Don’t worry parents; there will be some fun activities for you as well. Beer Tree Brew Co. will be having a beer garden set up during the event, complete with a bonfire and Adirondack chairs. The county parks director told 12 News most of her job in the winter is planning things for the summer, but when given the chance to bring Winterfest back, she jumped on board.
