BYU rallied for two runs in the fifth to tie it at 3-3. The Utes scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh, buoyed by walks, a hit batter and an error and held off the Cougars in the late innings for the win.Migueles, who was 1-for-3 on the night, has hit home runs in back-to-back games after hitting two against Oregon State on Saturday. DaShawn Keirsey, Jr., led Utah at the plate with a 2-for-4 performance.Riley Pierce pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Josh Lapiana pitched 2 2/3 innings in the victory, allowing two runs on four hits with two strikeouts. Austin Moore did not allow a hit with two strikeouts over 1 2/3 innings while Trenton Stoltz picked up his second save of the year after throwing one pitch to retire the final batter.Utah had three hits in the first inning but a double play by BYU helped keep the game scoreless. BYU took a 1-0 lead in the third after a walk and a pair of hits.After again stranding two on in the third, the Utes broke through in the fourth. Wade Gulden and Shea Kramer both singled, which was followed by Migueles’ homer for a 3-1 lead.BYU rallied back in the sixth to tie the game at 3-3. The Cougars loaded the bases with two outs after a single, walk and hit batter. A long at-bat resulted in a two-RBI single to tie the game.Utah left runners on in the fifth and sixth innings before scoring the go-ahead run in the seventh. Oliver Dunn walked and Braden DeBenedictis was hit by a pitch. Davis Delorefice hit a ground ball and an attempted double play was thrown into left field, loading the bases with one out. After a pitching change, Gulden was walked on four pitches to give Utah the lead before BYU got a pair of strikeouts to get out of the inning.Reliever Moore got two strikeouts in the top of the ninth and surrendered a walk before Stoltz came in to get the final out of the game.Utah heads to California on Wednesday to open a three-game series against Cal beginning on Thursday, April 5, at 6:05 p.m. PT/7:05 p.m. MT.
